Health Services

Douglas County Public Health provides a broad range of services to individuals, families, and communities to promote and protect the health of those who live, work, and play in Douglas County. The focus is on promoting healthy families and communities, preventing and responding to emerging diseases and health threats, and identifying and preventing environmental health risks. Our Health Department promotes equity and fosters partnerships with many organizations, businesses, and community groups to address and resolve health issues and concerns.

Environmental Health

Environmental Health is a regulatory and licensing agency for food service establishments, public swimming pools, hotels, motels, campgrounds, tourist rooming houses (like Airbnb and VRBO), recreational education camps, school food service programs, and tattoo and body piercing establishments. Environmental health also investigates human health hazard complaints, lead-based paint hazards, well water quality, radon, and other environmental hazards.

Public health nurses assess, develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs for individuals, families, and the community.
